Summer is Winding Down

Summer is starting to wind down, and the hens seem to know it. Over the past few weeks, our egg production has dropped significantly. We are now getting less than a dozen eggs per day, which is a change from our usual supply.

Our Hens Are Molting

The slowdown is related to molting. Molting is a normal seasonal process when hens lose old feathers and grow in new ones. During that time, egg laying slows down because their energy goes into feather growth instead.

It is not a problem, and the hens are doing what they naturally do. It just means we have fewer eggs to share right now.

The Egg Stand May Be Closed Some Days

We will sometimes close the egg stand if there aren't enough eggs. We would rather close for the day than leave anyone unsure.
